From Ireland to Austria Series: Hallloooo Again From Berlin!
This is from a series originally posted on my original blog: Seefahrer Thayer. While I don't recommend it, you can view the original posts here. Because the content had value and useful tips I've decided to repost them here, however, they've since been heavily edited and updated.
Yesterday I met up with Reemt Lücht- my sailing friend I met on the train on my way to Berlin, and we toured mostly West Berlin. I couldn't tell you at all what we saw, but again, everything was beautiful. I know we saw the Emperor's old palace, which was huuuuge with a massive garden that we visited. It was amazing how quickly the noise of the street disappeared too. It was full of these massive Eichen (oaks) and little fox squirrels. So beautiful.
We went to a little restaurant where I got Leberkäse (liver meat) und Eier (eggs) und Kartoffel (potatoes) und Salat. Sehr gut! And I got a Becks, since I've been slacking a little the last few days on drinks. My intake, instead, has been pretty much dedicated to water and juices.
We saw a famous shopping mall, called "Ka De Ve" It's totally massive, and has an entire floor dedicated to posh food, which I may go check it out again today, if I'm feeling up to taking the metro.
I also got some absolutely disgusting blisters yesterday, from walking around. I have one on the bottom of each foot, and one beneath my big toe. So sometime today I'll have to find some blister padding too, but I'm definitely taking an easy day, no reason to rush out or anything, after all. I'm thinking I may upload some pictures to my computer, get some Döner and do a tiny bit of shopping, as we should be going out tonight with Russland.
Oh yeah, and last night the three of us went down to the river and just hung out under the few stars that were out, talking about traveling, and astronomy and I dunno. But it was a very pleasant evening. I then made the terrible decision to go with Theresa to see her boyfriend and friends on my bad feet, and we got lost several times. Theeeeen on our way back it started raining.
Overall a good day though, I suppose.
I'm trying to decide when I'll finally part Berlin... I'm thinking Monday, then head down to Italy. I had planned for more days there, but I've heard it's much harder to find English speakers, and I'm really enjoying speaking German, and being able to communicate. So I'll probably leave Sunday and spend the night in Dresden, then Swoop down deep somewhere in Italy, then back up to Florence and Venice and such and such.
I can't believe my program (and birthday) are already only two weeks away... boy does time fly.
