From Ireland to Austria Series: Oh Galway...
This is from a series originally posted on my original blog: Seefahrer Thayer. While I don't recommend it, you can view the original posts here. Because the content had value and useful tips I've decided to repost them here, however, they've since been heavily edited and updated.
You had such promise.
I can't even remember how many people told me to go see you.ve
So Galway... not everything it was chalked up to be. Everyone said how beautiful it was... well I guess I can see it. Though admittedly, about all that was pretty about it you can see in the few pictures I took with my phone. There was a decent sized mall... I don't know. I just don't see it.
The people here aren't even nice. I went to a bar for a late lunch, no one looked at me as I wandered around looking for where to sit (mind you there's only one family there- 3 people altogether and 2 waitresses). I finally ask if I seat myself, and one if them says yes, and to go ahead look at the menu, which I have to search for too. They proceed to let me sit there for ten minutes without asking if I want anything to drink or eat, or anything at all. And there's no one else there. I got up and left, and went to the pub next door. Almost the same story.
I've circled the whole town center about 4 times on foot. If I hadn't of already checked in to the hostel I would've gone down to Limerick or something.
It's a bank holiday, so a lot was closed, but even so there's nothing to do. I heard the live music at pubs is supposed to be good, but I'm not getting my hopes up. It's almost 21:00 and I can't hear anything going on outside.
I spent the afternoon looking over travel plans for the next few days. Unless someone can come up with something more reasonable I'm going to go South tomorrow, then head up to Dublin and take a ferry East to Holyhead. I'll take a bus from there to London!
I'm trying to figure out where I want to go tomorrow... Limerick, Waterford, or Kilkenny...
